Nuevo hospital de Urduliz: se mejora el proyecto original
Para 2013 Bizkaia contará con un hospital en Urduliz mayor de lo previsto por el gobierno anterior (36.750 metros cuadrados en cinco plantas y dos sotanos). 
El consejero Rafael Bengoa y el Director de Osakidetza Julian Pérez Gil presentaron el 22 de enero de 2010 un nuevo proyecto que duplica el anterior en magnitud y presupuesto (78 millones de euros en lugar de los 40 previstos). Será el hospital de referencia para la Comarca Uribe-Kosta, donde dará servicio a 107.000 ciudadanos de Plentzia, Sopela, Getxo y Mungia, descongestionando en un 20% al hospital de Cruces. La construcción comenzará en abril y podría comenzar a funcionar en la primavera de 2013. Al finalizar se construirá un bloque materno-infantil. Contará el hospital con 192 camas para unidades de especialización, catorce camas y 20 puestos para el hospital de día quirúrgico dotado con dos quirófanos, diez camas y 21 puestos. Además, contará con seis quirófanos, una UCI con capacidad para diez camas, un local para consultas externas con 50 locales, una zona de urgencias, radiología, hemodinamina y hemodiálisis, y una unidad de docencia e investigación que estará coordinada con el futuro Instituto de Investigación Biocruces.
